Mental Growth

Growing is pain.
Your words strike.
The world slows.
My heart swells.
Look at me,
take a mental note.
This is where you start,
and it’ll never end.

You don’t always need an ending.

Just keep going,
keep trying.
It won’t be smiles
and wishes
until one day I’ll look back —
right at myself —
and then it’ll strike.
Be so clear.
The ending was right with me,
when I wanted it.
When I earned it.

It does happen overnight.
Some longful nights.
I’ll wake up,
smile,
and go back to bed.

It really does just happen overnight.
